ALAN HANDS OVER THE REINS

After 30 years as Chairman of the Clacton Carnival Association, Alan Wiggins handed over the reins to his Deputy, John Sowton, at the 55th AGM of the Association held on 18th November.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of Tendring District Council, Cllr Roy Smith as Honorary President of the Carnival Association.  He congratulated Alan for his 30 years dedication as Chairman and the Committee on their success and commitment to raising funds for the community and being such a valuable asset to the Town.

In his final report as Chairman, Alan reflected on his 30 years in Office, most of his adult life.  “Carnival has changed and evolved over the years and it is my hope and wish that this continues in the years to come.  It has gone from strength to strength mainly due to a very strong committee of volunteers, many serving as long as I have, who give freely of their time.  Although we gave less money away in donations this year, this was because we had such appalling weather for the procession.”

Alan was presented with a watch in recognition of his 30 years as Chairman.   John Sowton thanked him for his hard work and enthusiasm for all those years.   “Alan has been the real driving force behind Carnival’s success.”
